There are many reasons to register with Ofsted if you are a nanny or working as a childminder. Not only does it increase your professional status, it also allows parents to use childcare vouchers and other financial assistance to pay for your services; these are only available to childcare professionals who are registered with Ofsted.
Childcare vouchers allow parents to save National Insurance & Tax on the first £55 per week they earn. This means paying with Childcare vouchers is a cheaper option for them to pay for childcare and a reason why they would consider employing an Ofsted registered childcare professional over someone who isn’t.
As you can see, voluntary registering with Ofsted gives you a competitive advantage over someone who isn’t and will increase your overall employability.
To become registered with Ofsted there is certain criteria and training you must complete. We have developed a course that packages up everything you need to become registered with Ofsted.
View our infographic ‘5 steps how to Voluntary Register with Ofsted‘ to understand how it works,
The course package is suitable for all childcare professionals including nannies, au pairs, maternity nurses and nursery staffing wishing to register on the voluntary part of the Ofsted Childcare Register. You must have a good level of English as the course is delivered in English.
The common core training is for those childcare professionals who wish to be on the OFSTED voluntary register and is therefore aimed at 0-8years. It is useful for those who work with over 8’s particularly in terms of multi-agency working and child protection and so you may find those who run After School clubs, for example, are interested in attending. Childminders would also be encouraged to attend, and this would ensure they again are working to meet legislation requirements as carers of 0-8’s.
The way the Common Core is planned is to ensure all home carers meet a certain level of knowledge which is recognised by OFSTED.
After you have completed our package and bought the necessary Public Liability insurance, you can apply to the Ofsted Voluntary register via the Government Gateway or you can contact Ofsted to have an application posted to you.
The cost of registration is currently £103 and some parents may be willing to pay this on your behalf due to the financial savings they will receive by working with an Ofsted registered childcare professional. Ofsted aim to complete your application within 12 weeks.

"After taking the Common Core Skills course I also decided to take a maternity course after my very positive experience with HATA. All the trainers were so professional and had lots of experience in their fields. It really gave me a newfound confidence in my skills, especially after my boss went on to have a second baby."
I have completed all my training through HATA (apart from my Hypnobirthing Practitioner) Sleep Training, Healthy Eating, First Aid, Maternity Nurse Training and the OFSTED Course. I have made a lot of friends through HATA a lot of which I speak to on a daily basis. I will continue to promote HATA to all my friends and those in this profession. I can honestly say that every course I have done with HATA has affected my profession in a good way. I have also made so many life long friends.
